In this course we want to introduce you to the physically and mentally healing world of mindfulness. In the most simple sense, mindfulness means taking our focus to the present moment and away from other thoughts. Celebrated American Psychological Association defines mindfulness as such: "Mindfulness is awareness of one’s internal states and surroundings. Mindfulness can help people avoid destructive or automatic habits and responses by learning to observe their thoughts, emotions, and other present-moment experiences without judging or reacting to them. Mindfulness is used in several therapeutic interventions, including mindfulness-based cognitive behaviour therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and mindfulness meditation." There are several recent studies that have shown that athletes and performance artists who practice mindfulness have improved their concentration and reduced competition/stage anxiety, which leads to an enhanced overall performance.
